Onion Recall Expanded to Include Ready-To-Eat Products

U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a health alert for ready-to-eat meat and poultry products containing FDA-regulated onions that have been recalled by Thomson International Inc., due to possible Salmonella Newport contamination.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that as of August 6, 640 people infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella Newport have been reported from 43 states.

85 hospitalizations have been reported. No deaths have been reported.
