Fairly Light Demand Drops PNW and Idaho Prices; Michigan Now Shipping

Onion Shipping Point Prices for September 19, 2022

In the Columbia Basin, Wash. & Umatilla Basin, Ore., all onions dropped under fairly light demand. Yellows are down $2.67 on average over the last week, whites dropped $3.25 and reds lost 75 cents.

News from Idaho and Malheur County, Ore. is worse. Yellows are down $2.63 on average in the last week and down $3.50 in the last two weeks. Medium yellows have dropped $5.50 since Sept. 6. Reds from this area are actually down in price from 2021 at this time. This is the first price we have seen that is under the year before since Jan. 24, 2022.

The Michigan shipping area started moving master container-packed onions on September 12 with good demand. The price of $16 is $5 over last year, when they debuted on September 22, 2021.

We should start seeing Wisconsin product soon.
