Vive Crop Protection Inc. is pleased to announce Doug Baumann’s promotion to Chief Technology Officer. Since joining Vive in the fall of 2022, Baumann has ensured that Vive continues to deliver grower-first performance and design through the company’s commitment to Precision Chemistry™.
Under his leadership, Vive is on the path to having the highest velocity innovation engine in agriculture. With a goal of putting a Vive product on every acre, Baumann’s scope of responsibility now includes Research, Development, Regulatory, and Manufacturing.
“I joined Vive because of the transformational power of the Allosperse® nano-polymer platform,” says Baumann. “It has incredible potential to improve crop protection when coupled with our Precision Chemistry design philosophy.”
Under Baumann’s guidance, Vive is expanding its R&D facilities in Mississauga as part of a corporate expansion which will increase Vive’s headquarters by 50%. The expansion includes new laboratories for plant science, microbiology, application technology, and space for 40 scientists.
“Doug has been an integral part of our team since he joined Vive and I’m thrilled to promote him into this role,” says Darren Anderson, CEO of Vive. “Doug’s ability to combine novel technology and innovation with a keen sense of market needs will continue to drive us towards a world-leading product portfolio.”
Baumann, who has been “living the science life since ’99,” holds a BS in Engineering Chemistry from Queen’s University and a PhD in Biomedical and Chemical Engineering from the University of Toronto, where he was a Fellow at Massey College.
An experienced R&D leader with a strong record of achievement in the agrochemical industry, Baumann brings significant experience in crop protection to Vive from his time at CYTEC (now Solvay) and Syngenta. He was born in St. Catharines, Ontario, where he spent summers working in the orchards and greenhouses of the Niagara Peninsula.
