M&P Engineering has written a blog reminding everyone that onions are a key ingredient of a successful Christmas dinner. Their recommendation is as follows:
“With Christmas just around the corner, it is important to start planning the most important meal of the year.
Whilst it may not be apparent, but the truth is, onions are a key ingredient in many aspects of this wonderful feast. Whether you are using them in stuffing, gravy, bread sauce or even chutney, you are sure to find onions in some part of your meal on Christmas day. And while things might be a little different for some this year, a good meal on Christmas day will surely lift everyone’s spirit.
Turkey is the preferred dish for many at this time of year, with stuffing as the perfect accompaniment. It is an essential part of any Christmas meal. To make the flavor more intense, the simple onion is the key addition.
Onion gravy is another delicious part of Christmas dinner. And not just during Christmas! Another traditional sauce served is bread sauce. It has its roots in medieval British cooking and it consists of cream, onion, spices, stale bread and butter.
And last, but by no means least, is a wonderful onion chutney, served with a cheeseboard or on turkey sandwiches in the evening“!
