Onion Shipping Point Prices for June 1, 2021
According to meteorologists, summer begins June 1, though the solstice is still three weeks away. But it is the weather that matters most to growers, so we are sticking with “summer has officially begun!”
In addition to camping, fishing, motorcycles and baseball, summer means onions are shipping out of New Mexico. Though this is the first report of product from Southern New Mexico, all three colors are showing up. Reds are up over 2020 by an average of $1.25, but yellows are cheaper with the exception of jumbos, up 50 cents.
Elsewhere around the country, little changed. Organic Vidalias are bringing $1 more than two weeks ago, and the Lower Rio Grande Valley in Texas has run out of onions.
