Onion Shipping Point Prices for October 4, 2021
Onions in the Columbia Basin and Idaho/Malheur shipping areas continue on a tear. In Idaho and Malheur County, Oregon, prices have risen by an average of $2.13 in the last month. Compared to 2020, today’s average of $14.38 is $6.13 over October 5, 2020.
Heat stunted many crops in the West this summer, driving prices of larger onions way up. In the Columbia Basin, Washington and Umatilla Basin, Oregon, colossal yellows are $16 a 50lb. sack, $8.75 over last year. Yellow super colossals in Idaho and Malheur County, Oregon are $21 now, $12.50 up from 2020.
Onions have started shipping out of Michigan at $9.75 on average. This is down an average of $3.50 from last year.
