Onion Shipping Point Prices for August 7, 2023
The first shipping point report for Columbia Basin, Wash. and Umatilla Basin, Ore. onions was last week, July 31. Jumbo and medium yellows are shipping at $11.50 and $9.50 respectively. These prices are off sharply from 2022. Jumbos are down $4 and mediums are $5 lower. Reds from the area are about the same price as last year – $9.75 on average.
Peruvian imports are also available again, with jumbo sweets shipping out at $26. These onions were not available at this time in 2022, but two weeks later, they were the exact same price.
Here’s something we haven’t seen before. Every onion from San Joaquin Valley, Calif. is the same price – $10. Prices fell off a cliff in the last two weeks, with yellows down almost $4 on average and reds down $2.50.
