Onion Market Update August 8, 2023

We have gone through another calendar of the onion cycle and the 2023/2024 storage crop season is upon us.  As I age, it’s amazing how fast time flys from one shipping area to the next.

Washington is up and running with all three colors, and the Treasure Valley in Idaho/Oregon is close behind with a bit of production going this week on yellows.

California and New Mexico will still have product for a bit longer, with Colorado right around the corner.

The Northeast is getting ramped up as well, with Canada up and running. Michigan and New York are getting ready to roll also.

Basically, all storage variety locations are either running or will be running in the next few weeks and supplies are ample for the current demand that exists. Demand is typical for this time of year. There are plenty of yellows available with that market being a little less than ideal. There seems to be just the right amount of reds and whites available currently to maintain current markets and supply the demand that exists.

As we get fully ramped up with storage production in all areas, I’ll send out a more complete update in a couple weeks.
