Onion Shipping Point Prices for April 17, 2023

The Lower Rio Grande Valley, Texas onion shipping area saw nice price increases in the last two weeks, as demand exceeds supply. Super colossal yellows are up $5 and yellow colossals rose $6.50. Whites are up $3.75 on average and even the beleaguered reds climbed 75 cents on average.

Likewise, Mexican crossings through South Texas are on the rise, with yellows up $4.83 on average and whites up $6.50 since our April 3 report.

Vidalia onions are now shipping with good demand, but are $2 lower than 2022. Organics from the area are not yet being shipped.

The Idaho and Malheur County, Ore. onion stock has run out, and shipping reports ended April 13. Peruvian imports shipping from the East Coast have also run out, ending up only one dollar less than when they started shipping in Fall 2022 at $25 for 40 pound cartons.
