Happy Halloween. How is it possible that October has already come and gone? The good news is that the harvest is finished, and the market has reacted with some strength.
Mexico is back in as a buyer of all sizes and colors, and they were a big buyer of whites for the past two weeks. Due to that extra demand, the white market got a bump up of several dollars this week.
Reds have firmed up and settled in at very solid, steady pricing. The yellow market still leaves little to be desired, particularly on jumbo yellows, as that market is still a bit soft.
With the end of October upon us, the overnight temps are starting to fall, and the need to switch to reefer only is right around the corner. Freight shot up a bit in price the last two weeks, but overall, there is still plenty of capacity to be found out there for our onion loads.
So far, quality out of Washington this year has been very good on all three colors. I have heard rumors that there might be some internal decay in some of the Idaho-Eastern Oregon crop this year. Personally, we have had nothing but clean arrivals out of that area to begin the season. We’ll keep our fingers crossed that it stays the same.
As always, if you have anything to add, please shoot me an email. I always enjoy hearing from you. Have a spooky week.
