Onion Shipping Point Prices for May 15, 2023
Last year at this time, onions stocks in the Columbia Basin, Wash. and Umatilla Basin, Oregon had run out. This year, not only is the area still shipping yellows and reds, but both colors have had modest increases in the last couple weeks. Jumbo PNW yellows are up $1 in the last week, $1.50 in the last two.
Imperial Valley, Calif. is now shipping reds. Since May 8, reds are up $1.50 on average, bringing them to $10.25, but the price is still well below 2022, which was $18.50 on average.
Vidalia sweets have been rock solid this season, starting and staying at $24 for 40 pound cartons, $1 less than 2022. We have yet to see organic Vidalias show up.
